ABSTRACT

ROBERT WILLIAM GOLTZ was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 21, 1923. After receiving his B.S. and M.D. at the University of Minnesota, he was permitted a nine-month residency under Henry Michelson before entering the Army. Here, he served for 2 years as the only dermatologist for the entire Pacific Theater. He returned to Minneapolis to complete his residency and to enter private practice in 1950. His research in dermatopathology, which was accomplished in evenings and weekends was so outstanding that it led to his appointment in 1964 as Chairman of Dermatology at the University of Colorado. He pioneered in demonstrating that cutis laxa and reticulohistiocytosis are the cutaneous signs of a widespread systemic pathologic process.
