ABSTRACT

TOMISAKU KAWASAKI was born in Tokyo on February 7, 1925. He received his M.D., and took his internship and residency in pediatrics, all at the Medical College in Chiba, Japan from 1943–1950. He then joined the Department of Pediatrics of the Japanese Red Cross Central Hospital where he did his studies on 50 infants and young children who had an unknown febrile illness, lymphadenopathy, and swollen hands and feet followed by desquamation. It became known as Kawasaki Disease, which, to date, has been seen in over 30,000 young patients.
