ABSTRACT

MARIE-JULES PARROT was born in Excideuil, Dordogne, November 1, 1829. He was the son of a physician. His initial studies were at the Paris Polytechnical School, and only later did he turn to medicine. While still a student he wrote a prize paper on herpes zoster. Following his graduation in 1857, he began practice in Paris. In 1876 he was appointed Professor of the History of Medicine on the Paris faculty, and in 1879, professor of pediatrics.
