ABSTRACT

WILLIAM AUGUSTUS HARDAWAY was born June 8, 1850, in Mobile, Alabama. After a literary education at the University of Virginia, he began his medical studies at the St. Louis College of Physicians and Surgeons, and was graduated from Missouri Medical College in 1870, and remained with that institution, and with Washington University in St. Louis with which it merged, until his retirement in 1910. A founder of the American Dermatological Association (1876), he was in every sense a pioneer in American dermatology.
