ABSTRACT

HEINRICH IRENAEUS QUINCKE was born in August, 1842, in Frankfurt-am-Oder. He was the son of a physician and did his medical studies in Würzburg, Heidelberg, and Berlin, taking his degree in the latter city in 1863. After preliminary work in physiology in Vienna he became an assistant to Frerichs in Berlin, and in 1873 became a Professor of Internal Medicine in Bern. In 1878 he took a Professorship at Kiel and spent the next 30 years there, returning to Frankfurt in 1908 when he retired.
