ABSTRACT
ERNST SCHWENINGER was born on June 15, 1850, in Freistadt, Germany. He received his medical training in Munich, and from 1870 to 1879 served as assistant to the pathologist, Buhl. His academic connections were severed in 1879, following which he attained publicity and fame by proposing a fluid restriction weight reduction diet which bears his name.
