ABSTRACT

FRANÇOIS HENRI HALLOPEAU was born in Paris, January 17, 1842. A brilliant scholar, he entered the Paris Medical school at 24 and three years later was second among a large number of candidates for Parisian internships. His thesis, submitted in 1871, dealt with convulsive symptoms in disorders of the spinal cord. He became affiliated with the Tenon and Saint Antoine hospitals, and later, in 1884, with l’Hôpital Saint Louis, where he remained until his retirement in 1907.
