ABSTRACT

Most academic economics texts, particularly macroeconomics texts, use an entire country as the typical unit of analysis. For financial markets and for the analysis of government fiscal and mo netary policy, such an assumption is approximately correct. However, for the market for most goods and services, including the market for labor, it is local and regional markets that are the relevant areas of analysis.
