ABSTRACT

To begin with I will present three vignettes from three young patients in order to approach the theme I want to discuss here, which is the place of the child analyst in the session, along with the countertransferential feelings that are stirred up in the analyst in consonance with what is transferred onto her, in a process that the patient designs. These three vignettes could well have occurred in the same playroom during the same afternoon. The analyst is the same in the three cases, yet because the place she occupies is that of the transference, in each one of the different sessions she appears to play different roles, possess different qualities, and to experience different countertransferential affects.
