ABSTRACT

Most procedures are undertaken using a percutaneous approach from the femoral artery. Radial or brachial access is sometimes employed.

Coronary angiographic catheter shapes

Angiographic catheters are preshaped (Figure 6.1) for specific tasks. The most commonly used catheter shapes are JL4 and JR4 for study of the left and right coronary arteries, respectively, and a pigtail for left ventriculography. A JL5 is an appropriate first-choice left coronary catheter in older males, particularly if they are tall or hypertensive.
