Intravenous (IV) flow rate calculations are usually required in a hospital situation. By means of these calculations, the rate of flow of an IV medication can be determined to administer certain volume of liquid when the duration of administration is known. To calculate the rate of flow (rate of infusion) of IV solutions, one can use either the method of proportion (which generally involves two steps) or the formula method.
