ABSTRACT

At the time of writing this concluding chapter, Boris Yeltsin is still president of Russia and the Russian government is led by Yevgenii Primakov. Exactly what this means is difficult to say. At the time of Yeltsin’s most recent “chicken” game with the Duma, which he actually ended up losing, there were rumours abounding that he was about to resign. Again, however, like so many previous rumours about his weak health leading to a transition of power, they were proven wrong. Russia’s president seems to be stubbornly bent on serving out his term. Whether he will actually succeed in that ambition is beside the point here.
