ABSTRACT

We evaluate almost everything. On a trip back to the United States in 2013, Stephen was reading in an airline magazine that a nose trimmer was the most reliable and best ranked for your money by Consumer Reports. The claim may sound silly, but somebody evaluates almost every product, or at least we are told it is. Products sell better when the consumer thinks they are buying a reliable product. Advertisers are interested in getting stamps of approval for products, including airlines, companies, hospitals, universities or colleges, and other for-profits. Even entities like towns and cities like it when they get “stamps of approval” saying they are reliable and/or good at certain things.
