ABSTRACT

This is a picture of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City. Every year the tree is put up and lit in late November and remains up until early January. The lighting of the tree brings thousands of people (tourists and locals) to the Rockefeller Center and is aired live on national television (along with live celebrity performances). The tree may cost tens of thousands of dollars to bring to New York and to maintain, but its presence brings in countless more dollars to New York City. In fact, in 2004 it was estimated that the tree alone brought in an estimated 3.7 billion dollars of tourism a year to New York City with many tourists visiting specifically to see the tree at Christmastime (Cummings, 2004).
