ABSTRACT
It is important not to see urban geography as something that you study in higher education and then disregard before you move on to the next module or into a post-education career. Perhaps one of the things that attracted you to study urban geography in the first place was that you recognised that it was not abstract and theoretical but something rooted in the realities of everyday life for vast numbers of people. Hopefully as you have read through this book you will have recognised discussions of urban issues that are relevant to urban areas with which you are familiar. The ability to make the connections between what you see on the page and what you see on the street is one important way of making urban geography your own, something that clarifies your understanding of your world and that beyond your own immediate experience.
