ABSTRACT
The seminal papers by Garrett (1975, 1976) proposed a two-stage model of speech production. In a nutshell, in the first stage a lexical item with the appropriate meaning is selected and grammatically encoded. In the second stage the speaker accesses and retrieves the appropriate phonological word-form.
