chapter  5
Who Moved to Milton Keynes?
Pages 13

This chapter looks at the many different groups of people who have moved to Milton Keynes since its earliest days as a new city. It also argues that, because the development corporation attempted, between 1970 and 1992, to encourage the formation of a social mix which reflected the wider national class profile and also the growing diversity of ethnic groups, the experiences of moving to Milton Keynes may be viewed as representative of a great many people who have moved home in England since 1970. As a recent article on Milton Keynes has noted, however, the new city has grown a predominantly younger population than is found in most English towns and cities.1
