ABSTRACT
In ‘ratio estimation’, a ratio of two population parameters is estimated from sample data, usually by taking the ratio of the corresponding sample quantities. Our purpose may be to estimate the ratio for its own sake (estimation of ratios) or to use the ratio as an intermediate quantity in the estimation of another parameter (estimation via ratios) [83, chap. 6], [555, chap. 7].
