Twelve teacher types or styles were extracted from the cluster analysis, and can be described as follows:

Type 1 These teachers favour integration of subject matter, and, unlike most other groups, allow pupil choice of work, whether undertaken individually or in groups. Most allow pupils choice of seating. Less than half curb movement and talk. Assessment in all its forms-tests, grading, and homeworkappears to be discouraged. Intrinsic motivation is favoured.
