ABSTRACT

The same null hypothesis, however, can also be tested by using one of the set of techniques known as analysis of variance (ANOVA for short). Despite its name, the ANOVA, like the ttest, is concerned with the testing of hypotheses about means. In fact, if the ANOVA and the (pooled) t-test are applied to the data from a simple, two-group experiment, the tests will give the same result: if the t-test shows the difference between the means to be significant, then so will the ANOVA and vice versa.
