ABSTRACT

The structure of the PGCE course at the University of Southampton and the nature of this predominantly school based route to QTS status does not permit a sustained practical focus on Sport Education. Sport Education has, however, become an embedded element within the PGCE course in secondary physical education and a focus of ongoing research and development in initial teacher training. The course engages training teachers both conceptually and practically with Sport Education. Sport Education has also been adopted in a growing number of partner schools. Training teachers who are placed in these schools will have opportunities to observe and/or to teach Sport Education as part of their placement experience and are also encouraged to share their observations and reflections with peers when they return to the University.
