ABSTRACT

There are still, on average, 12 shamans in Nanwang. Sulaw is the doyenne. She directs all the community rites. Between 1985 and 1997, six shamans, Amui, Alaw, Asarup, Labo, Muradi and Pikiok, died, and six new ones were elected (see Appendix 7). Chinese society, which is now in the majority in the village, consults shamans.
