ABSTRACT

The previous discussions have focused mainly on mining the data and information on the Web. In this chapter, we discuss Web usage mining and Web structure mining.

As mentioned in Chapter 9, three aspects of mining on the Web are (1) mining Web logs and usage patterns, (2) mining Web links to extract structure, and (3) mining Web content, including data, text, images, video, etc. Research in these areas is being conducted by various groups, including Morey et al. [MORE98a] and Shrivastava et al. [SHRI02]. A good start to Web mining was the ICTAI conference panel on Web mining [ICTA97] and later the KDD workshop on Web mining [KDD99].
