ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 provided a brief introduction to data mining and discussed its relationship to Web data mining. This chapter provides a brief introduction to the core technologies for data mining. These core technologies contribute to data mining as well as to Web data mining. Toward the end of this chapter, we will discuss the relationship of the core technologies to Web data mining. As we have stated, we assume that eventually much of the data will be on the Web, either intranet or the Internet. Therefore, Web data mining will, in a way, encompass data mining.
