ABSTRACT

Many parents remark, “I don’t know what happened to my kid. When she was 12, she was this sweet, compliant, motivated, respectful kid. Then, at 14, it was like she was snatched by aliens, and transformed into a self-absorbed monster designed to devour parents.” Adolescence is a perplexing time that is confusing and troubling to teenagers and their parents. Teens feverishly search for identity, struggle with egocentrism, rebel against convention, and battle for autonomy. These developmental issues complicate the psychotherapy process and homework assignment.
