ABSTRACT
In February 1956, I defended my undergraduate thesis at the Laboratory of Measuring Instruments of the Academy of Sciences (currently the Russian Scientific Centre of the Kurchatov Institute) and, according to my assignment, was supposed to go to the Ural atomic ‘object.’ Work related to the production of fissioning materials didn’t suit me very well. While still at school, I expressed interest in the physical sciences and research.
