The Wage Gap Between Men and Women

While antidiscrimination laws have resulted in many women obtaining professional degrees in law, medicine, and business and in obtaining entrylevel positions in government, business, and industry, women remain at token levels at the top: on corporate boards of directors and as law partners and tenured full professors. Barriers remain, and many observers argue that among them are subtle patterns of discrimination: stereotypes, tendencies to want to associate with similar people, personal connections, and unequal performance standards that are gender biased. This situation is the glass ceiling.
