ABSTRACT

This letter of Attorney-General Thomas Egerton to Sir John Puckering, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, is in Harley MSS. 6849, f. 191. It is of special value because it was written by an eye-witness on the same day that the Barrowists were found guilty in court. It reveals the defiance of four of the five defendants, and indicates their denial of any malicious intent against the Queen.
