ABSTRACT

Deficit of elbow function has a great impact, especially on elbow flexion. An upper arm with good shoulder function and a normal hand but with deficit of elbow flexion is severely impaired to the point that even the hand loses a great amount of its use. On the contrary, deficit of elbow extension is often considered a minor loss thanks to the compensating action of gravity that allows a spontaneous passive extension. This fact is not always true and the specific conditions in which even elbow extension is of paramount importance will be described in this article.
