ABSTRACT

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs) are not so much a technology as they are a vision. In the 1980s, traffic planners and researchers saw that the application of “high technology” offered the prospect of revolutionizing their national transportation sector. They foresaw a transportation system of the future that would be more efficient, less polluting and safer. The key technologies that could enable this vision were the group of technologies we call today, Telegeoinformatics.
