ABSTRACT

Imagine that you have been invited to a meeting by an organisation with which you are unfamiliar. You know the time and place but you don’t know the topic or any of the other participants. Nor do you know who is responsible for the running of the meeting but you do know that it is very important and could change your life. There is no time to drink coffee and chat to others before the meeting to try to see if they know anything about the purpose of the meeting; you simply go into the meeting room and take a seat, one of 12 arranged in a circle with no table or anything else obstructing the space in between. There is nowhere to put any computer, mobile phone or writing pad except on the floor under your chair and the clear instructions that came with the invitation stated that all communication devices must be switched off for the duration of the meeting.
