ABSTRACT

First reported in 1954 by Brews,1 symptomatic endometriosis of the diaphragm is rare, with less than 30 cases reported in the world’s literature. Most of these cases are contained in two series.2,3 The right diaphragm is involved 27 times more frequently than the left. Bilateral disease is rare, occurring in only two of 28 cases. The age range of women with symptomatic diaphragmatic disease is 19-43, with an average age of about 34 years. There can be a delay of several years in diagnosis after symptoms appear.
