ABSTRACT

The Internet is perhaps the most visible and pervasive example of the heightened role of information in modern society. Sixty percent of the respondents to our survey agreed with the statement: “We do not know how to make constructive use of our information.” Yet, the past decade of experience with the Web provides many examples illustrating how information can be used and enhanced in value. Individuals and groups can easily find creative and valuable ways to use information when given the opportunity. This chapter describes how the Web serves as one model of the way information can be used in the enterprise and how this model has the potential for improving (or diminishing) your enterprise’s information value.
