ABSTRACT

From Switzerland, the Clemenses moved to Vienna, the city of Strauss, for Clara’s musical career. She wanted to study piano with the celebrated but demanding Theodor Leschetizky, who had taught Paderewski. He agreed to take her as a student if she did more technical training first. Clara spent three months practicing three to four hours daily until he accepted her. In Leschetizky’s classes Clara met her future husband Ossip Gabrilowitsch.
