ABSTRACT
Until recently, the development of new methods of protection against biofouling has proceeded mostly on an empirical basis. With the development of the basic quantitative theory of colonization (Chapter 7) and the concept of anticolonization protection (see Chapter 10), there appears to be a way to analyze the theoretical foundations of protection against biofouling.
