ABSTRACT
A moment-to-moment measurement of the blood flow produced by the heart would provide the best possible information about the heart’s pump function. Alternatives are to measure stroke volume, the blood volume that the heart pumps per beat, or cardiac output, the blood volume that the heart pumps each minute. Both provide similar information, since the heart rate is easily measured.
