Lung cancer is one of the most important malignancies worldwide in terms of both incidence and prevalence, and as a leading cause of cancer death [1]. Despite well-defined risk factor associations, particularly tobacco consumption, preventive strategies aimed at control of cigarette smoking, and through lung cancer screening, have met with limited success [2].
