ABSTRACT

Our research and clinical experience has shown that identifying ARMS subjects in secondary mental health services is possible and that these subjects benefit from CBT. Screening with a 16-item version of the Prodromal Questionnaire (Loewy et al., 2005) in secondary mental health services is a feasible method to filter out subjects with possible ARMS and/or psychotic symptoms (Ising et al., 2012). These individuals can then be interviewed using the CAARMS to verify their ARMS/psychotic status. Based on the ever-increasing scientific evidence, and the fact that ARMS/psychosis is often not recognised even in mental health services (Boonstra, Wunderink, Sytema and Wiersma, 2008; Nieman et al., 2009), it seems that the time has come to start extensive implementation of the screening for and treatment of ARMS.
