ABSTRACT
Brazil is officially a Roman Catholic country. However, Afro-Brazilian cults such as Candomblé and Umbanda are very strong in Brazil. The last 15 years have also seen a great expansion of Protestant and evangelical churches, which have started to exercise a strong cultural and political influence.
