ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the use of a methodology that must satisfy two tests: It must be applicable in developing countries, such as those in sub-Saharan Africa, and it must address relevant issues of individual and community patterns of drinking described in the introductory chapter of this book. The study’s techniques were only outlined initially in a brief conceptual paper, and participating researchers were under no pressure to adopt them fully.
