ABSTRACT

One of the fundamental ergonomics job design and assessment concepts is that of comparing the demands of work with the respective capabilities and limitations of the human body. A comprehensive assessment can include the capabilities and limitations of body subsystems, including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems. In the case of muscular exertion, assessing maximal exertion capabilities and the magnitude of exertions while performing tasks have been key components of assessing the degree of compatibility between strength capabilities and job demands.
