ABSTRACT

Pushing and pulling actions take place in the workplace and away from the workplace on a daily basis. While many of these actions require minimal exertion, sometimes strength is needed to complete a task. As ergonomists involved in either task analysis or task design, we need to understand human capabilities to exert push and pull forces required by specific task(s). This chapter reviews the research relevant to determining human capability to exert these required forces and how these forces are determined.
