ABSTRACT

Energy consumption is a first class design constraint for mobile computers. Having a long battery life with adequate performance is an important criterion for users, as is having a system that is small and lightweight. The energy consumed by a system determines the size, weight, and volume of the battery it must have to achieve a given battery life. The battery is a significant fraction of the overall size and weight, so reducing energy consumption is a key step in making a system that is small and lightweight.
