ABSTRACT

The brilliant commentaries above have given us a rich understanding of Katie and provided suggestions for how a good psychotherapist might have helped her out of the depths of her despair. Lisa Firestone (chapter 11) illustrates how a psychotherapist might work with a client like Katie using voice therapy. Thomas Ellis (chapter 6) identifies several cognitive styles and distortions in Katie’s thinking that a cognitive therapist would focus on in therapy sessions. Antoon Leenaars (chapter 7), Robert Fournier (chapter 9), and James Hollis (chapter 10) also discuss issues that are important from their perspectives on suicidal behavior that a therapist could explore with a client like Katie.
