ABSTRACT

Unfortunately the public image of today’s private investigator is not substantially better than it was 70 years ago. Portrayed by Hollywood as sleazy but awkwardly principled, former hard-drinking social misfits, private investigators as a lot have gotten a bad reputation. Be it for the silver screen or a primetime television series, the scriptwriters who pen these timeless masterpieces (that was a pun) tend to think that their private investigator, in order to be credible, must have been a military or law enforcement reject, once married to the perfect spouse (a lawyer usually) but screwed up the marriage like most things he touches, who is now on the brink of bankruptcy.
