ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduced the system development life cycle (SDLC) in Figure 1.4 (duplicated here as Figure 3.1). We learned how to use analytical and interpersonal skills to identify an enterprise’s requirements by gathering information through interviews, questionnaires, meetings, and document reviews. We learned how to translate those requirements into a relational data model using checklists, functional decomposition diagrams (FDDs), data flow diagrams (DFDs), logical structures, and decision trees. We learned how to document the structure and detail associated with these models in a data dictionary.
