ABSTRACT

The events of 9/11 have changed many lives in many ways. Specialists in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) note that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center affected not only those individuals who lost loved ones but the population of the entire tri-state area (Gordon, 2002). It is still too soon to fully comprehend the effects of the trauma because acts of terrorism resulting in mass casualties have a wide impact (Office for Victims of Crime, 2000; Doka 2002). Traumas resulting in massive killings, property destruction, and long-term unemployment will challenge the structure of the community in which they occur (Williams, Zinner, & Ellis, 1999).
