ABSTRACT

Cardiac tumors can be classified as primary or secondary. The incidence ranges from 0.002% to 0.3% in postmortem series. Approximately three-quarters of primary cardiac tumors are benign and most are amenable to surgical resection. Secondary (metastatic) tumors are 30 times more common. Surgery for cardiac metastases is palliative and involves the management of recurrent pericardial effusions.
