ABSTRACT
The data used in this section were collected on the basis of a survey via embassies, trade organisations and business associations of the EU member countries in China during the period 1996-1997. This intensive data collection process allowed to identify 741 European companies that wholly or partly owned 1,214 manufacturing, trade and service subsidiaries, representative offices/ branches and regional headquarters in China. The business and financial data of about 300 of 741 European parent companies were collected from their annual reports and/or web sites, publications of business associations, local business directories and the CD-ROM AMADEUS (1994).
