ABSTRACT

Designing a server environment entails making decisions about the basic hardware requirements, as well as selecting the more advanced database configuration methods necessary to effectively interact with the available hardware. The designer needs to understand the demands that the server places on CPU resources, which is discussed in detail in this chapter. The discussion then moves to a consideration of the demands that the server places on RAM resources. The focus then shifts to server design as it relates to general memory issues. The chapter concludes with a detailed look at designing the overall network, including connectivity concerns.
